Permissions

Poreia requests only the permissions necessary for its core functionality. Here's exactly what each permission does and why it's needed.

Location (When In Use)

What it does

Allows the app to access your GPS coordinates while the app is open and visible on screen.

Why it's needed

This is the core functionality of the app. Without location access, Poreia cannot record your position, calculate distance traveled, or create track files. Every feature depends on knowing where you are.

What data is collected

GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude, altitude), speed, and accuracy readings. This data is stored locally on your device in track files. Nothing is sent to any server.

Location (Always)

What it does

Allows the app to continue accessing your location when the app is in the background or your screen is off.

Why it's needed

If you're hiking, cycling, or driving, you probably don't want to keep your phone screen on the entire time. "Always" permission lets Poreia continue recording your path while your phone is in your pocket or mounted on your dashboard.

What data is collected

The same GPS data as "When In Use"—it's just collected while the app is in the background. A blue pill appears in your status bar whenever background tracking is active, so you always know when the app is using your location.

You can decline this

If you only grant "When In Use" permission, the app still works—you'll just need to keep the app open while tracking. You can change this anytime:

iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Poreia

Notifications

What it does

Enables Live Activities on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island, and delivers notifications when auto-pause triggers during background tracking.

Why it's needed

What data is collected

None. No data is sent to Apple's push notification servers. Live Activities and notifications are powered entirely on-device.

You can decline this

The app works fine without this permission. You just won't see Live Activities or receive auto-pause notifications.

No Other Permissions

Poreia does not request access to:
